Hearing more and more people talk about Halogen ovens, are they really better than the conventional oven?
Halogen ovens use a halogen lamp to heat up your chosen foods. The heat can be adjusted depending on the foods you need to cook. It has been said that a Halogen oven can cook anything that you can cook in a conventional oven, with some cooking a full English breakfast, Sunday roast and even a sponge cake!
The bonuses are that the Halogen oven is portable and compacts and saves cooking time, with manufacturers claiming that you can cook a whole chicken in under half an hour. With the cooking times saved, a Halogen oven is said to be eco-friendlier. This being said he Halogen oven uses more energy in one hour compared to the conventional gas or electric cooker, however the cooking time is quicker with the Halogen oven using less energy for the meal in total.
Halogen ovens vary dramatically in price, with your basic oven at around £35, and your more hi-tech ovens pricing around £100. Also not forgetting to change the Halogen bulb throughout as well.
Halogen ovens do require some surface space, as they tend to be on the bulky side. A nice feature is the glass bowl, while it looks slightly like a fish bowl, you get to see a great shot of your food being cooked, not always as easy in your conventional ovens. When turned on the Halogen ovens are pretty bright, which is a great way to remind you they are switched on.
Halogen ovens are a great appliance to add to your kitchen, they save cooking time and do not take long to heat up. I could not see Christmas dinner being made in one, but are definitely an asset to your appliances.
